Ten Chambers Send an Open Letter in Support of the Judicial Reform

Dear Members,

Herewith, the BBL Executive Board would like to inform you that today 10 Chambers of foreign business in Bulgaria came together with a common position to support the judicial reform in the country through an open letter addressed to the Prime Minister Mr. Boyko Borissov. A scanned copy of the letter in ENG and BG is in attachment.

The Chambers express their concern about the recent developments in the implementation of the long awaited reform of the judicial system, intensifying the impression that in Bulgaria there is not enough rule of law. The lack of reform leads to uncertainty in the investment process, reservations from making new investments and discourages new investors. Investments are key to Bulgaria’s development as well as to vital reforms in key areas: healthcare, education, infrastructure, environment. It also takes political will to implement the judicial reform, the will to enforce the law. The meaning of reform is not just in law making but also in implementation and enforcement of legal norms.

The letter has been sent to Mr. Boyko Borissov, Prime Minister of Bulgaria with copies to Mr. Rosen Plevneliev, President of Bulgaria, Mrs Tsetska Tsacheva, Chairperson of the National Assembly, Mrs Ekaterina Zaharieva, Minister of Justice and to all Vice Premiers.

On behalf of the BBL Executive Board
